Hi all! So – I’ve had a crazy busy week – this morning up at 04:30! – thank goodness it’s holidays and no spanish dancing, or I wouldn’t have had time to breathe! But I am pretty lucky cos my boss lets me melt and polish at lunchtime at work, so that’s a definite bonus!
I’ve been working on a span of custom orders this week, and thought I’d share a few of them with you.. (Whilst the pop culture theme is still alive and running strong, I’m quite proud of the shark’s tooth pendant clasp I made up – “not Starbright Girl’s style” as my hubby puts it, but pretty cool nonetheless!)
This is a golden snitch necklace (from Harry Potter for those of you not in the know!) – made with hand-pierced silver wings, and a 9ct gold bead in the centre.. Each wing measures less than 2cm across, so the piercing out was pretty tricky – but it’s turned out so beautifully (the photo doesn’t do justice!), that I think I want one for myself.. Hmm – maybe before the first Deathly Hallows film gets released at the end of the year.. (Can’t. Wait!!!!) 🙂
Next up is a pendant made for a huuuge Spiderman fan (who would’ve guessed! 😉 ) She wanted it to look like Spidey was hanging from his webbing, as he does, and I think it turned out pretty cool! For your info, the pendant piece is sterling silver, with an image, and shaped clear Perspex over – it gives such a lovely shine and dimension when polished, don’t you think?
I actually used plain doming resin for years, but apart from the fact that sometimes it discolours the picture after a few years, and it’s ridiculously fiddly to work with, I actually prefer the Perspex effect. More work overall, yes, but it looks awesome in the end! 🙂
And then, finally, the afore-mentioned sharks tooth pendant.. It’s apparently a fossilised sharks tooth, so I was streeessing about being gentle with it – hard to do when you’re trying to shape thick wire! (there was a LOT of annealing involved!) But I think it’s turned out really well – it’s quite the rugged, manly piece, don’t you think?! So very different to what I usually do! 🙂
So now – it’s almost 6am, and I have to move it, as I need to finish off another silver order (men’s ring with resin) and make up stuff for the I heart Market – this Saturday at the Greek Hall in Durban North, don’t forget! Hope to see some of you there 🙂
Have a wonderful day everyone – and remember – it’s almost Friday – hurray!! 😀 Megs xxx
