Good morning to you all.. 🙂 I have been a bad blogger of late, and have not been updating.. I think it’s getting to that time of year – the silly season, where there are just so many birthdays and events that life becomes crazy! (This lasts into the New Year as you all know!) But, I have been squeezing in work time – have a couple of big orders to get out, then it’s work, work, work to stock up shops before Christmas, then make sure I have enough stock for my etsy shops and for the I heart Markets!!

I’ve also been doing lots of research on backgrounds for my etsy shops – the thing is, you have to make sure your thumbnail pic really is eye-catching so, after browsing through about 50 of the top etsy jewellery shops (http://www.etsywiki.com/index.php?title=Top_Sellers_-_Jewelry), I decided to try out a two-tone background, incorporating my logo colours (so, pink and white!) I personally think it makes the products eye-catching, without detracting too much (as a patterned background would) – but please let me know what you think?

I’ve only loaded a few pictures so far, so would be easy to change back – would appreciate any advice.. 🙂

Otherwise – I’m feeling quite 80’s inspired again – so expect to see some Delorean brooches and walkman earrings soon! On the silver front, I really do love working with resin, so I’m thinking of doing some graphic pendants and brooches – we’ll see how it goes..

Have a fantastic rest of your week everyone – enjoy and relax – cos the crazy season is almost upon us, and there’ll be no stopping the fun! 🙂 Megs xx

Ahem – if you look at the header, that pretty much sums me up at the moment.. I’ve been working like crazy – but hey, when there’s work coming in, and ideas flowing, you gotta go with it, right? Come the end of this year, I may be just about ready to crash, but – no chance of that happening, have to find a super-second wind, cos I’m going to be visiting my brother in Germany! Somehow the thought of travelling gives me extra energy (as well as the thought of having decent spending money to shop while there – worth putting in some early morning hours for!!)

Anyhow – thought I’d share a couple of my new concepts and designs with you..

First up – I’ve done a range of Men’s Perspex pendants, on rubber thong necklaces, incorporating classic movie & TV quotes.. Although I can NOT do impressions, I love to be able to recognise where quotes come from, so I thought this would be a fun & wearable series to do:

Then a quick little look into a new range, still in the concept stages, but I’m looking at doing a series of brooches, incorporating silver, Perspex & Resin – but really beautiful once off pieces – I’m calling the range “Lifestyles of the Cute & Furry” – here’s a sneak peek:

Then, before I leave, I have a little piece to say on Geek Pride.. I still don’t understand the prejudice, or perceived prejudice against people who are geeky types.. Sometimes I feel sorry that people are scared to express themselves, because of what other people “might” think.. But think of all the people out there who dress up, paint their faces, and wave their flags at sporting events.. You might not live in a country where you can visit Comic-Con dressed as a Klingon, but I think you can show your geek allegiance in other ways – which is what a lot of my jewellery is for! So be proud – if you like tattoos – get one showing your passion for something, if you’re into wearing T-shirts, emblazon your chest with awesome slogans, if you want to be more subtle, wear some geek-themed jewellery, or pin some badges on your bag.. I try and include at least one reference to a movie, TV show or book when I dress each day 🙂 If you’re a geek, like me, own it, and have fun with it – and enjoy revelling in the confused expressions of people trying to figure out what the Rebel Alliance symbol stands for!!

Have an amazing week everyone – hope it’s a happy one..

PS – have just dropped off cool new stock at both Artisan Gallery, and Fat Tuesday in Kloof 🙂

Hello all – hope you’ve been having a great weekend 🙂 So, football fever is in full force here (excuse the alliteration!) – it’s vuvuzela’s everywhere, and it’s hard not to get caught up! I did, in fact, watch the whole SA vs Mexico game the other night, and was suitably impressed and excited (but really do pity the players – what pressure!!)

This morning we and some friends went for a wander along the Durban beachfront, and I must tell you – it’s looking great!  It’s clean, and paved all the way along (I think we missed the memo about how it’s now the perfect place to ride your bikes, so we may have to look into renting or perhaps purchasing some – I want a bmx, myself, like I had when I was young!) – plus it’s the most beautiful day, so all the tourists I saw just had to be impressed! Ah, Durban in winter, with your 28 degree temperatures! 😉

Anyhow – onto some jewellery… I worked on some new designs a while back, and have finally finished some off..  Whilst perusing Etsy, I have definitely noticed a trend in soft, subtle patterns and colours (something I’m not always fond of!), but decided to experiment with some designs – what do you think?

I also decided to do some personalised Perspex letters, for pendants, which I think turned out quite fun.. The problem with the full name, which I have done before, is that Perspex can be quite brittle, and can snap easily, but I think the single letters should be more than safe 🙂

I can also do these in silver, naturally – like below 🙂 (This one’s mine, btw!)

But, of course, the Perspex will be much cheaper! 😉

I have also added a little non-jewellery item to my Etsy page – you can order your own custom cake topper from me! Lovely for weddings/anniversaries or birthdays, I can either do initials (like the pic below) or a whole name.. As mentioned, these are quite fragile, but would look gorgeous on a tiered cake! I’ve done some for weddings before, and they look kinda awesome – see the pics of new style, and the one for Paul & Nadja’s wedding 🙂

And this is now a very long post, so I’ll say cheerio – but please do check out my etsy shop at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/starbrightgirl

Hope you all have a great week! Megan xx 🙂

Hey all.. A little later than promised, but herewith some pics of the beautiful Artisan Gallery in Florida Road, Durban..

The stunning glass-fronted space is fantastic for showing off the multitude of South African artworks, including pottery, ceramics, paintings, textiles and of course, jewellery. Sue Greenberg, the owner, always makes sure everything is beautifully displayed, and it is always a pleasure to browse (and buy!) there..

Currently running is the Local is Lekker exhibition – see previous post: https://starbrightgirl.wordpress.com/2010/05/22/local-is-lekker-nice/

Herewith a little pic of my work on display – I personally love the silver & resin zoo biscuit brooches!!

So that’s all from me for now – but please do check out Artisan when you can – see their website for directions and more info! http://www.artisan.co.za

And of course – tell your visiting friends and relatives too – there are awesome and unique SA goodies – a great reminder of their (hopefully) incredible World Cup visit!

Have a fantastic Sunday – and hope the week ahead treats you all well 🙂 Megan xx

So, it’s weekend time, but that doesn’t mean any rest for me! Nope, I have too many things on the go, and have to keep going regardless.. I was slowed down a little by some flu last week, and my mom visiting last weekend – but for the latter I didn’t mind taking a break – I only see my mom 3 or 4 times a year, so love it when I do! 🙂

But – as I mentioned – I have lots of work that needs finishing! First up – Artisan Gallery in Florida Road, Durban, is opening a new exhibition just in time for the soccer world cup – called “Local is Lekker”.. So – I scratched my brains to think of all the things I love about SA, and since making jewellery showing the entire Drakensberg range could be tricky, I decided instead to go for 2 themes: Awesome Indigenous Pretty things, and, well, yummy stuff! Here are some pics of my work in progress, far from finished, but I have a few evenings! (And people wonder why my work isn’t too complex – there’s no time for it to be! 😉 )

So – on top of piercing like a maniac to finish for the exhibition, it also looks like I might be stocking an awesome concept shop in Cape Town – a pop-up shop called The Fringe Arts – which moves locations.. Fingers crossed – they’re announcing the new location this week, and I’m working hard just in case I need to send stock in a hurry! 🙂 Check them out at: http://www.facebook.com/thefringearts

So, on top of that, I still have to make up new stock for shops, the next I heart Market (5 June!), and of course new stock for my Etsy shop – although I’m thinking of re-naming it my Treksy shop – as all I seem to keep selling is Star Trek Earrings! 😉

So, anyhow, that’s my news for now – will keep you all updated on exhibition details etc – and please don’t forget to check out my Etsy shop in the meantime – http://www.etsy.com/shop/starbrightgirl – I really would appreciate the support! Have a great week everyone – for the Northern Hemispherians, I hope summer feels like it’s on it’s way – I am in full anticipation of winter down here, and can’t wait to start layering up properly! Cheers! 🙂

Sooo.. the Soccer World cup is coming up soon, everyone’s talking about it, expecting miraculous sales and huge tourist volumes.. Me, however, I’m not so sure it’s gonna be the cash cow everyone thinks.

So, I have done one little design – some soccer-y earrings, but I honestly don’t know if it’s worth making them up, or if I’m going to be wasting my time, cos the market will be flooded with cheap Chinese goods (ah, the story of all silver jewellers lives!)

And so, I ask – would you, as a big, ahem, soccer fan, be keen on the following (and I hereby copyright these by showing them here – if anyone copies these I’ll hunt them down!! 😉 ) as earrings or a fun brooch? (Might add a “2010” somewhere, as well)

I don’t know – I’m all about  the pop culture, so kinda feel like I might be selling 0ut with these.. Thoughts? Comments? Aaargh!

Otherwise, been too hot and tired to do much website work, but it is looking pretty, and I do plan to have an updated version up soooon!

Making lots more pretty silver things, and have a million and 5 ideas, just a matter of making them up.. Stay tuned 🙂
